ASVAB Question Types

All questions on the ASVAB will be multiple-choice. However, the topics of questions you find on the ASVAB will differ from section to section. That is why it is important to use an ASVAB practice exam when preparing.

Here are the question topics you can expect to find on each section:

  • General Science: Questions related to physical and biological sciences (life science, earth & space, chemistry, physics).
  • Arithmetic Reasoning: Math questions given to you in word-problem format.
  • Word Knowledge: Vocabulary questions requiring you to select the correct meaning or identify the correct synonym.
  • Paragraph Comprehension: Reading questions in which you will be given a short passage and asked to answer a question about the passage.
  • Mathematics Knowledge: Math questions covering high school math principles.
  • Electronics Information: Questions related to electricity and electronics.
  • Auto Information: Questions related to cars.
  • Shop Information: Questions related to tools and shop terms.
  • Mechanical Comprehension: Questions related to mechanical and physics principals.
  • Assembling Objects: Questions in which you will be given a shape and asked to determine how it will be put together.

Practice for the ASVAB with the Right Resources

1. Diagnostic Exam

We always recommend our users start off with getting a baseline. You can take our ASVAB practice test above to see where you stand.

If you want a more in-depth diagnostic exam, we offer a more comprehensive version in our ASVAB prep course.

2. Full-Length ASVAB Exam

What better way to prepare for the actual exam than with a simulated version? We offer simulated versions of the actual ASVAB exam in our course.

Our full-length exams consist of the following:

  • Same Number of Questions
  • Same Time Limits
  • Same Types of Questions
  • Same Topics Tested

3. Flashcards

A great (and efficient) way of studying is to use flashcards. Our flashcards are split up by section, so if you only want to study the flashcards for general science, you are free to.

We have more than 1,250 flashcards included in our course.

4. Question Banks

Maybe you do not want to take a full-length exam and just want to practice some questions in an untimed environment. That is where our questions banks come in.

Our question banks are untimed and show you the answer immediately after you answer the question. The question banks allow you to practice in a stress-free environment.

Tips and Tricks for ASVAB Practice

It is easy to feel overwhelmed when practicing for the ASVAB. Here are some tips and tricks you can use to help you stay on track:

  • Get a Baseline: Start with our ASVAB diagnostic test above and see where you stand.
  • Narrow Down Trouble Areas: After getting a baseline, try to narrow down which specific subjects gave you the most trouble. This will help you study more efficiently and save time.
  • Focus Specifically on Trouble Areas: Instead of jumping around and studying everything on the ASVAB, study just the trouble areas to begin with. This will help you remain focused and retain more information.
  • Progress Checks: After you study trouble areas, take a full-length exam and see if you improved. If you did improve, and you are happy with your score, you can move on and study the next trouble area.
